SpectraProof users with hardware-calibratable monitors such as Eizo, Viewsonic or BenQ typically calibrate using the supplied calibration software. However, there are always applications where this software cannot be used. This is the case, for example, when a large-format NEC monitor or LG monitor is used that is installed in a printing machine. Apple users like to use their Apple display, which lacks the hardware calibration component. Such displays can be controlled in SpectraProof via the calibration routine. The brightness of each color channel can be adjusted using a traffic light system. The gain of each of the three RGB components can also be adjusted. This allows the desired color location to be represented or achieved in the best possible way, purely from the hardware.

SpectraProof’s built-in monitor calibration wizard tells the user where to make changes on the monitor, and how much brightness or color to change positively or negatively. The result is a softproof that is as accurate as possible to the target color location. If all the traffic lights in SpectraProof are green, the software will continue to work and create an ICC profile of the monitor. This is perfect for users who do not have a hardware-calibratable monitor.
